The duties of the Council on Aging are to:
1. Identify the total needs of the community's elderly population.
2. Educate the community and enlist the support and participation of all citizens concerning these needs.
3. Design, promote or implement services to fill these needs, or coordinate present existing services in the community.
4. Promote and support any other programs which are designed to assist the elderly in the community.
The council on Aging works with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Office of Elder Affairs and is cognizant of all State and Federal legislation concerning funding, information exchange and program planning which exists for better community programming for the elder.
The COA gives an annual report in writing, to the Board of Selectmen, with a copy of that report directed to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Office of Elderly Affairs.

| Can people get lunch at the Senior Center? Yes. We have a nutrition program at our site under the direction of BayPath Elder Services. Meals are served Tuesdays and Wednesdays at noon. The suggested voluntary donation is $3.00. Part of the cost of the meal is underwritten by the federal government through the Administration on Aging. Each meal is planned by a registered dietitian to meet 1/3 of the daily nutritional requirements of a senior. Menus appear in the Senior Center newsletter, the Sudbury Senior Scene, which is sent out at the beginning of each month. They are also available on the Sudbury Town website. Reservations for meals must be made by no later than 10 AM on Monday, by calling the Senior Center at 978-443-3055. |
| How do I contact the Senior Center?
By Telephone: A call to the Senior Center will reach a LIVE PERSON during its normal operating hours of 9:00-4:00 weekdays. When the Senior Center is closed you can leave a message on an answering machine.

Director - Sudbury Senior Center
E-mail Director - Sudbury Senior Center Most people will find that clicking the above words will AUTOMATICALLY start their regular e-mail program with the correct e-mail address of the Director of the Senior Center already inserted on the "To:" address line of a "New Message". If clicking the above words does NOT work properly for you, then please MANUALLY address your e-mail message, using only lower-case letters, to: gallowayd followed immediately by the symbol: @ followed immediately by: sudbury.ma.us including the three " period " symbols placed exactly as shown. It is VERY important that there are NO spaces in the address. The complete address should look like this: FAX

| I need help understanding my health insurance and Medicare regulations. Is there someone at the Senior Center to assist me?
Yes. Under a federally-funded program, S.H.I.N.E. (Serving the Health Information Needs of Elders), FREE help is available to all seniors trying to navigate the often confusing maze of health insurance regulations. Two highly trained counselors are currently consulting at the Senior Center and are ready to help you. Call the Center at (978) 443-3055 for an appointment.

| I'd like to join the Senior Center's e-mail distribution list. What do I do? It is pretty easy. Go to the Town website at http://sudbury.ma.us/ Once there, in the upper left corner you’ll see “Email Lists”. Click on that, then click on “Senior Center—General Information” from the drop-down menu that appears. Enter your e-mail address in the box provided, and click on “View Subscription Status”. Enter your first and last name in the boxes, and, importantly, click on the little box in the green box that says “Subscribe to Senior Center—General Information”. Please remember to click on “Save Subscription Changes” just below the green box. You will be added to get all the newsletters the month before they are mailed, and occasional updates and items of interest that have come up too late for inclusion in the newsletter. |
| I'm not 60 yet. Can I use the Senior Center? Sure you can!..A few services are reserved just for those 60 and older, but most activities and many services are open to all. In Sudbury a person officially achieves the status of "senior citizen" at age 60. |
| Is there a van service that can help me get around in Sudbury? The Senior Center operates a wheelchair lift-equipped van for Sudbury seniors and people with disabilities that will pick you up at your place of residence and bring you to the Senior Center and any other destination in Sudbury. It will later return you to your place of residence. The van operates 8:30 AM to 3 or 3:30 PM Monday-Friday. The fare is $1.00 one way. The entire cost of operating the van, including the driver's salary and benefits and repairs to the vehicle are paid through an agreement with the MetroWest Regional Transit Authority (MWRTA). To schedule a ride, call the Senior Center at 978-443-3055. |
| The Senior Center mails the newsletter out free. How does that work? We mail the Sudbury Senior Scene free to all Sudbury households where the head of the household is age 60 or more. There are 11 issues a year. The newsletter is printed for us free by Community Publications, which sells ads in the newsletter to pay for the printing. The postage is paid for by the Friends of Sudbury Seniors, at no cost to taxpayers. Some people get the newsletter by joining our on-line distribution list. People in other towns who want the newsletter mailed to them do pay an annual subscription fee of $7.00 to defray the cost of postage. |
| What types of programs and classes are at the Senior Center? We have several on-going programs including aerobics, yoga, bridge, watercolors and cribbage, as well as courses in computer basics and many "lifelong learning" series. We also have several health related programs and a free blood-pressure clinic. We offer day trips, multi-day trips, and even trips to other countries. For further information, call the Senior Center at (978) 443-3055 or Click Here to send us an email. All the details are available in the monthly publication, the Sudbury Senior Scene, available free at the Senior Center and on the Town website. We are always looking for ideas for new programs. Many of the Senior Center programs started as the result of an idea from a Sudbury senior. For a complete listing visit http://sudbury.ma.us/services/seniorcenter/custom/hal/links.htm |
